Purpose

The purpose of the Council of Water Leaders is to enhance water resources management by providing a forum for learning about important water issues in the North Santiam Basin. In particular, this forum aims to bring together decision-makers and other leaders in the North Santiam that influence water resources management to increase communication and coordination.

Goals

The goals of the Council of Water Leaders include: 

To provide decision-makers and other leaders with the latest facts about water issues 

To increase coordination among organizations 

To enhance the connection between science and policy 

To create a safe space for discussion of water issues that is non-advocacy 

To facilitate solutions to complex water issues 

To improve efficiency of communications among organizations 

To align messaging about water issues 

To enable a wider audience to learn about water issues and to share facts about water issues 

To support water-related planning efforts in the North Santiam Basin

Vision

Water resources management in the North Santiam Basin is enhanced through improved communications and collaboration facilitated by the Council of Water Leaders.

Structure and Function  The Council of Water Leaders structure is as follows: 

Council of Water Leaders consisting of decision-makers and other leaders in their respective fields (or their chosen representatives for the meetings) 

Administrative Coordinator, and 

Technical Advisors who are representatives from organizations involved in water management in the North Santiam Basin.

The Council of Water Leaders functions as follows: 

Council of Water Leaders: Participants attend meetings to learn about water issues, to discuss water issues, and to look for opportunities to coordinate and collaborate with other water management organizations in an effort to improve water resources management in the North Santiam Basin 

Administrative Coordinator: Organizes and facilitates meetings, facilitates communications between the Council of Water Leaders and Technical Advisors, reviews gathered information with technical experts before sharing information with the Council of Water Leaders, and helps develop and align outreach messages and materials 

Technical Advisors: Share facts about water issues and activities on behalf of their organization to the Administrative Coordinator, and share information and outreach materials from the Council of Water Leaders, which are organized and aligned by the Administrative Coordinator, with their organization.
